Christ Pantokrator with a silver-gilt and cloisonné enamel oklad, Russian, late 19th century (icon), Moscow, 1894 (oklad) (sale 207, lot 139)

empera on wood panel. Christ realistically painted, raising his right hand in benediction and holding the Gospels in his left hand. His silver-gilt vestments repoussé and chased with geometric borders. The oklad cloisonné enamelled in turquoise with vari-colour enamelled scroll accents and translucent red lettering and highlighting. The border repoussé chased with stylised foliage and enamelled inscription plaque. The corners similarly enamelled. Marked with city hallmark, assayer's mark, 84 standard and master's mark "SA" in Cyrillic. Russian, late 19th century (icon), Moscow, 1894 (oklad). 32 x 27 cm.
