A monumental icon from a church iconostasis showing the Old Testament Trinity, Russia, 18th century (Sale 197, Lot 120)
Tempera on wood. Three angels seated around a table under the oak of Mamre. The background with buildings to the right and rocky mountains to the right. The miniature figures of Abraham and Sarah advancing from either side with offerings. A servant slaughtering a calf in the foreground. The faces painted with brown and modelled with shades of red. The garments alternating with complimentary red and green. Finely executed. Minimal vertical cracks. 107,5 x 85,5 cm.
