Verschiedenfarbige Gläser nach Schablonen mit dem Diamanten geschnitten, anschließend vom Künstler mit Schwarzlot bemalt. Die aufgetragene Malerei wird dann bei ca. 640 Grad in das Glas eingebrannt. Danach erfolgt das Verbleien und Verlöten der mosaikartig miteinander verbundenen Felder. Dekor: Heiliger Christophorus mit Stab, das Jesuskind auf den Schultern tragend. Rechts oben Ligaturmonogramm des Künstlers und Datierung (19)61. Holzrahmen. 104 x 72 cm Provenienz: Süddeutsche Privatsammlung Ausstellung: Dieses Glasfenster von Otto Dix wurde 1995 anläßlich des 20jährigen Jubiläums der Städtischen Galerie Albstadt auf der Ausstellung ''Bilder der Bibel'' gezeigt. Bedeutendes und seltenes Dokument künstlerisch gestalteten Farbglases. Otto Dix war ein bedeutender deutscher Maler und Grafiker des 20. Jahrhunderts. Sein Werk ist vielfältig, bleibt jedoch in seiner künstlerischen Grundhaltung dem Realismus verpflichtet. Am bekanntesten sind diejenigen seiner Gemälde, welche der Neuen Sachlichkeit (Verismus) zugerechnet werden. Dix gilt als exzellenter Zeichner und hinterließ mehr als 6.000 Zeichnungen und Skizzen. Die umfangreichsten Werksammlungen befinden sich im Kunstmuseum Stuttgart und im Museum Gunzenhauser in Chemnitz. Den weltweit größten Bestand an Arbeiten auf Papier besitzt die Galerie Albstadt. Christophorus' riesige Gestalt erschreckte alle, die ihm begegneten. Er suchte Gott und trug an Stelle eines Fährmanns Reisende über einen Fluss. Eines Tages nahm er ein Kind auf die Schulter, um es über den Fluss zu tragen. Zunächst war das Kind sehr leicht, aber je tiefer Christophorus in die Furt stieg, desto schwerer schien es zu werden. In der Mitte des Stromes keuchte er schließlich: ''Kind, du bist so schwer, als hätte ich die Last der ganzen Welt zu tragen!'' Das Kind antwortete: ''Wie du sagst, so ist es, denn ich bin Jesus, der Heiland. Und wie du weißt, trägt der Heiland die Last der ganzen Welt.'' Otto Dix was a German painter and printmaker, noted for his ruthless and harshly realistic depictions of Weimar society and the brutality of war. Along with George Grosz, he is widely considered one of the most important artists of the Neue Sachlichkeit. Saint Christopher lived during the Christian persecutions of the Roman emperor Decius and was captured and martyred by the governor of Antioch. According to the legendary account of his life, Christopher was a Canaanite 5 cubits (7.5 feet (2.3 m)) tall and with a fearsome face. While serving the king of Canaan, he took it into his head to go and serve ''the greatest king there was'' (Christ). He went to the king who was reputed to be the greatest, but one day he saw the king cross himself at the mention of the devil. On thus learning that the king feared the devil, he departed to look for the devil. He came across a band of marauders, one of whom declared himself to be the devil, so Christopher decided to serve him. But when he saw his new master avoid a wayside cross and found out that the devil feared Christ, he left him and enquired from people where to find Christ. He met a hermit who instructed him in the Christian faith. Christopher asked him how he could serve Christ. The hermit then suggested that because of his size and strength Christopher could serve Christ by assisting people to cross a dangerous river, where they were perishing in the attempt. After Christopher had performed this service for some time, a little child asked him to take him across the river. During the crossing, the river became swollen and the child seemed as heavy as lead, so much that Christopher could scarcely carry him and found himself in great difficulty. When he finally reached the other side, he said to the child: ''You have put me in the greatest danger. I do not think the whole world could have been as heavy on my shoulders as you were.'' The child replied: ''You had on your shoulders not only the whole world but Him who made it. I am Christ your king, whom you are serving by this work.''
