The nativity of Christ. Russia, 18th century. Tempera on gesso on wood panel with flat kovcheg. This detailed icon shows the Nativity of Christ. The hills act as natural divisions between the represented scenes. At the upper corners the coming of the Magi led by the star, which is held by an angel. In the center Christ lying in a crip surrounded by the Mother of God and Joseph. At the right side an angel announced the miracle. The lower part shows the killing of the newborns. Slightly restored. 34 x 26,5 cm.
