A large and finely painted icon double-sided procession icon. Russia, late 18th century. Tempera on gesso on wood panel, golden background. One side depicts the Mother of God of the sign. Christ Emanuel appears in front of her. The backside depicts St. John the baptism. He is portrayed half-length in three quarter view holding an open scroll and a chalice with the naked body of Christ. Executed in a great detail. St. John probably painted earlier. Losses.
