"Hinterglasbild mit ""Maria Hilf"" Sandl, 1. H. 19. Jh. Vor weißem Fond in bunten Farben zwischen Blütenzweigen ausdrucksstark gemaltes Gnadenbild ""Maria Hilf"". Profilierter Holzrahmen. 24,5x19,5 cm Lucas Cranach hatte das Bild für den Sächsischen Hof zu Dresden gemalt. Erzherzog Leopold V. wählte es als Gastgeschenk bei einem Besuch und brachte das Bild aus Dresden zuerst nach Passau, wo er Bischof war, und dann nach Innsbruck, wo er Regent war. Im Dreißigjährigen Krieg wurde es bei Marienandachten öffentlich verehrt, und um 1650 erhielten es die Innsbrucker für ihre Pfarrkirche, den heutigen Dom. Als 1683 Wien durch die Türken belagert wurde, flüchtete Kaiser Leopold I. nach Passau. Vor dem Gnadenbild (eine Kopie des Cranach-Gemäldes) betete er täglich um Rettung aus der Türkengefahr. Als die christliche Allianz die Schlacht am Kahlenberg unter dem Kampfmotto ""Maria hilf!"" gewann, wurde das Passauer Mariahilf-Gnadenbild zum Staatsgnadenbild der Habsburgermonarchie."
