Die Modellierung des Gesichtes mit Hilfe weißer 117 x 65 cm trägt das für ihn charakteristische Kamelhaargewand, über das ein blaues Himation mit St. John is shown in a frontal position. Depicted as a winged messenger with prominent wings. Here John holds a diskos (Eucharistic footed dish) containing the nude infant Christ, symbolizing the Lamb of God of the Eucharist. His right hand is raised in benediction. St. John as precursor of Christ is wearing a brown garment of furs over which he has draped a blue himation with white folds. Painted in sombre colours, with gilt details. He has long tousled hair parted in the centre. His features are highlighted with white brushstrokes. Zar ihn als Schutzheiligen verehrte. St. John is shown in a frontal position. Depicted Known in Western Christianity as John the Baptist, he is commonly called John the Forerunner (Slavonic Predtecha, Greek Prodromos) in Eastern Orthodoxy. In the New Testament he was the forerunner of Christ's earthly ministry, and in the apocryphal Gospel of Nicodemus he was also the precursor of Christ's descent into Hades. Here he is shown as "Angel of the Wilderness". In accordance with Mark 1,2 he is conceived as an angel or, respectively, messenger of the Lord. St. John has been represented as a winged ascetic figure in Orthodox art since the 13th century. In the reign of Ivan IV.
