Veneto-Cretan, 16th century Klebeetiketten: "This picture was [...] a French soldier from one of the churches at Egg tempera on wood, gesso ground. The garments in green and red highlighted with gold stars and folds. Horizontal crack restored. On the reverse two labels: "This picture was [...] a French soldier from one of the churches at Sebastipol and bought by me in France" and "This picture was bought by A.J. Ritchie from the widow of Sir John Cowans GCB etc July 1931". 36 x 47.5 cm linken Hand berührt. Beide tragen einen dunkelgrünen Chiton mit sparsamen Goldornamenten Provenance: Sir John Stevens Cowans (1862-1921) (Britain's Army Quartermaster-General and a member of the Army Council throughout the First World War) weist. In ihrer rechten Hand hält sie einen Palmzweig sowie ihr Attribut das Rad. Zur The Mother of God supporting Christ. To the left St. Catherine holding the instrument of her martyrdom, the wheel. On her right hand the betrothal ring offered to her by the Child. The garments rendered with saturated colours, accentuated by gold decorative details. To the right St. Roch as a pilgrim. schenkte sein Vermögen den Armen, trat in den Dritten Orden der Franziskaner ein und begab Saint Roch was born in 1295 at Montpelier, France into a wealthy and noble family. At the age of twenty he gave away his considerable fortune to become a pilgrim. Saint Roch devoted his whole life to the service of those who fell victims to the plague. He lived in the prison for five years until his death in 1327. The body of St. Roch was carried to Venice in 1485.
