A rare vase with handle and sheepherder Jean Désiré/Eugène Muller for Muller Frères, Croismare, circa 1904 Colorless glass with overlay in white, ochre, red and 'nouveau décor fluogravés'. Etched, engraved and brown painted decor: sheepherder with three sheep. Mark: Muller Croismare. 17.2 cm high Baumlandschaft. Die Figur des Hirten mit geschnittener Binnenzeichnung. Frei applizierter Muller Freres was located in two French towns a short distance east of Nancy. Working in Luneville, as well as Croismare, the Mullers turned out some exquisite pieces. They never stopped experimenting, which could account for the wide range of shapes, styles, and techniques found with their signatures. Prior to the establishment of their factory in the early 1900's, they both had training and experience with Emile Gallé's firm in Nancy.
