A rare silver-mounted enamel snuff box with Kauffahrtei scenes Christian Friedrich Herold, Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, circa 1730/35 Round silver can with four black-gold framed quatrefoil cartouches with harbour scenes and merchants, enameled painted in a very fine polychromatic way. Further four smaller quatrefoil cartouches with mythological figures in puce camaieu, flowers and symmetrical foliage in gold. On cover and base one big quatrefoil cartouche framed with foliage with harbour scene and numerous merchants. Inside gilded. Min. traces of usage. 7.8 cm diameter Purpurcamaieu, symmetrischem Laub- und Bandelwerk in Gold sowie Blütenfestons. Auf Deckel Christian Friedrich Herold was born in 1700 in Berlin. To paint in enamel he probably learned from the gunsmith maker Fromery. From 1726 he worked for the Meissen porcelain manufactury as painter and gilder. He is one of a few craftsmen of the manufactory who were skilled under Johann Gregorius Höroldt. He principally painted Chinoiserie and Kauffahrtei scenes for the Meissen manufactory.
