A South German Private CollectionAn important South German Private Collection
On 9 th May 2009 the auction house Dr. Fischer is going to sell an almost 600 objects comprehensived South German Private Collection. The high quality of the objects verify many years of intensive passion of collecting and being a source of inspiration for art lovers. Exquisite bronzes, historical cutted and coloured glasses, valuable silverware, rarely Art Nouveau vases and noble porcelaine create a well considered arrangement that contains a lot of treasures.
Top-lot of bronzes are two Art Nouveau reliefs by Alphonse Maria Mucha (1860-1939). His theme of two stylized women that personalize on the one hand „Music“ on the other hand „Poetry“ bases upon a four-series of „The Arts“ of the year 1898 that was produced as a „Panneaux décoratifs“. The estimated price is 50.000 €.
Beside completly in cast-bronze produced sculptures Dr. Fischer offers aesthetic figurines of „Chryselephantine“, for example the figurines of dancers that are in demand on art market. An expressive dancer is created by Bruno Zach (891-1945) which has an estimated price of 3.500 €.
The works by Joseph-Emaniel-Jules Descomps (1869-1950) have to be emphasize in the category of ivory sculptures. Beside Ferdinand Preiss he’ s one of the most important ivory artists and was a student of H. Hiolin. His fine and detailed sculpture „Chloe“ has an estimated price of 600 €. Another one is the qualitative sculpture „Female nude with a pigeon“, estimated price 3.500 €.
Demetre H. Chiparus (1886-1947) agile terracotta work „Double bust of a girl and a boy“ has an estimated price of 1.800 €. Spectacular articles of virtu finish the offer in the category glass. An alpine schnaps dog with the inscription "Wan ich Beym wein gern frollich wer, So brumbt mein Weib alß wie der Beer 1727" has an estimated price of 3.500 €. Also important is a cup (Glashütte Emde, circa 1730) with the portrait of Ludwig Rudolf (1671-1735), duke of Braunschweig-Lüneburg by Heinrich Balthasar Sang with an estimated price of 12.000 €. The section Art Nouveau glass is brilliant at a rare vase (Burgun, Schverer und Co, Glashütte Meisenthal, um 1896-1900) that shows a romantic forest countryside with castle ruin, estimated price 2.500 €. Moreover Dr. Fischer offers a vase „metallic yellow Phänomen Gre 2/314“ by Loetz, Wwe., Klostermühle 1902, estimated price 3.500 € as well as an important Soufflé-vase by Emile Gallé, Nancy (1920th) with floral rhododendron decor, estimated price 3.500 €. Highlight of the silverware offer are three excellent silversmith works of the 16 th century. For example a detailed and extraordinary Ölmützer-beaker (circa 1570/80) with four medaillons of the evangelists and their attributes, estimated price 9.000 €. The section of faience and stoneware shows absolute treasures for art lovers and collectors. The unique offer of maiolica plates contains three bowls of the 16th century (Urbino, Castel Durante).
Important stoneware from Annaberg, Altenburg, Bunzlau and Westerwald is as well represented as faience from Künersberg, Nuremberg, Ansbach and Proskau. Porcelain collectors have the unique opportunity to acquire rare and high quality objects, for example a figurine by Meissen „Gardeners“, circa 1750, estimated price 2.000 €, moreover some Meissen figurines of Japaneses by Alfred O.A. König, before 1924. Each of them has an estimated price of 800 €. A clock with sheeps by Gerhard Schliepstein (Rosenthal, circa 1928) is reduced of the basic form, estimated price 3.500 €.
The most prominent exhibit in the category of paintings ist the biblical scene of Jesus Christ and John the Baptist by Hans Thoma (Bernau 1839-1924 Karlsruhe) in a carved wooden framework. Hans Thoma was a student of Johann Wilhelm Schirmer at the „Großherzogliche Kunstschule“ of Karlsruhe. He lived in Basel, Düsseldorf and Paris. He was influenced by the work of Gustave Courbets and the school of Barbizon. From 1870 until 1876 he spent his time in Munich, the german art capital at this time, where he was friend with Arnold Böcklin and in relation with the circle around Wilhelm Leibl.
