Saints Simplicius, Faustinus and Beatrix were a group of Christian Martyrs who died in Rome during the Diocletian persecution (302 or 303). The legend about them is that the brothers Simplicius and Faustinus were cruelly tortured on account of their Christian faith, beaten with clubs, and finally beheaded; their bodies were thrown into the Tiber. Their sister Beatrix had the bodies drawn out of the water and buried. According the legend St. Bonifacius translocated the relics of the saints to Fulda. Lauterbach is a town in Hesse in central Germany. The town was founded between 400 and 800 AD. In 812 the town was mentioned for the first time in a document of the church in Schlitz. In the Middle Ages, Lauterbach belonged to the cloister in Fulda. Then in the 12th century Lauterbach became a fief of the count Ziegenhein from the cloister in Fulda. In 1266 Lauterbach received municipal rights. In the same year Lauterbach received the official seal.
